Sports Fans

It might be helpful to set up a grid as follows: We can see that Ryan must like basketball since neither Alex nor Steven does. Steven does not like basketball or baseball, so he must like football, leaving Alex liking baseball.

Gossip
Mrs Gossip was telling her friends the latest. The woman at 5 or 9 had run
off with the milkman; the couple at 5, 7 or 11 were holding a pyjama party,
but without the pyjamas; the skinhead at 5, 7 or 9 had assaulted the vicar;
and the hippy at 9 or 11 was high again (in fact, he was sitting on the roof).
They live in separate houses and the couple live next door to the hippy.
What numbers do they occupy?

How Much Tip
Of the 960 people in a theater, 17% tipped 5 cents to the usher, 50% of the remaining 83% tipped 10 cents, and the rest tipped nothing. How much did the usher get?
Reference: Quick-to-Solve Brainteasers, J.J. Mendoza Fernandez

Answer:
If half of the 83% tip the usher 10 cents and the other half doesn't, it is the same as if all 83% had tipped him 5 cents, which is the same amount as what the remaining 17% tipped. The usher received 4,800 cents, or more simply, 48 dollars.

The Secretary's Daughter
A woman went to visit her bank manager and she took her young daughter with her. The bank manager said that the woman's daughter could stay with his secretary during the meeting. When the woman and her daughter left, the secretary turned to another secretary and said to her, "That little girl was my daughter." How could that be?

Answer:
This does not involve adoptions, step-parents, in-laws, or grandparents. The little girl was the secretary's daughter and she was the daughter of the woman who visited the bank manager.
The secretary was the girl's father.
